Alcanada is generally considered to be one of the top two golf courses on the island and has repeatedly been acknowledged as one of the best golf courses in Europe by many different golf magazines.
Robert Trent Jones Snr. & Jnr. designed the beautiful Alcanada golf course, which opened in October 2003. Typical Trent Jones features, like 58 well placed green side fairway bunkers, challenging greens with hidden breaks, and difficult but fair tee shots, make this golf course a must for all experienced golfers visiting Mallorca.
There are plenty of reasons why this course is one to shortlist.
The first is the spectacular design. Alcanada is the only golf course on the island that is located right by the sea. The back 9 gently slope down towards the shoreline, with pine, olive and oak trees and the mountains of the Sierra de Levante making for an impressive background.
Almost as spectacular as the design of the course is the view across the bay of Alcudia. The lighthouse on the island of Alcanada, just 150m into the sea, forms part of the club's logo. The restaurant overlooks both the course and the bay of Alcudia, and is highly recommended for lunch or dinner.
With 12 minute tee-intervals, there are less players on the course, and a corresponding reduction in the number of divots, pitch-marks and other damage, which means that it is in a better condition than many of the island's other golf courses. However, with less tee-times available you do have to plan ahead in order to secure your favoured slots, although it is almost unheard of to spend longer than 4 and half hours playing 18 holes here.
The service provided by the entire team of staff at Alcanada is amongst the best you'll find at any course on the island, and little touches, such as player's names being displayed in their pre-booked buggies, is just one example of this.
The only downside, if it can be called that, is the distance from Palma, about an hour by road. But this shouldn't put you off from making the journey, as you will undoubtedly have one of the best experiences of your holiday.
